The Scoop on Scoop: A Wonderful Ice Cream World

We always love visiting the latest exhibition in London. We also love ice cream, especially to help us cool off in this crazy heatwave. So SCOOP: A Wonderful Ice Cream World, the pop-up exhibition from the geniuses at Bompas & Parr, was the perfect find!

This immersive museum leads you through various rooms to explore and discover the history, process and industry of ice cream. First, we learned about the Victorian ice cream-making traditions. On display were gorgeous moulds that were used to create ice cream works of art.

We were then offered different flavour scents to smell before participating in a retro ice cream cookery school. This was especially fun as we attempted a popcorn flavoured ice cream. (Although our experimental efforts left little to be desired). The next room displayed a collection of ice cream memorabilia, including a huge postcard wall, nostalgic characterised statues, and there was even an X-rated video about how some ice cream trucks in the 1980s were used to smuggle drugs.

But our favourite room was, of course, the one where we got to sample some free ice cream! Ben & Jerry’s showed us how our brainwaves react whilst eating their latest flavour, through a triggered light display. We were then encouraged to ‘breathe in’ vanilla-flavoured ice cream vapour. The experience culminated in the grand finale of glow-in-the-dark ice cream.

Our visit was such a treat, filled full of fabulous inspiration. In fact, we learnt that this exhibition was just a taster, as there is an overall aim to find a new, permanent location for the ‘British Museum of Food’.

Get those spoons ready…
