From modular fridges that tackle food waste to Pantone’s colour for the coming year, here is this week’s and 2020’s final set of things that made us say “That’s Interesting” in the studio.
We’ll be back in 2021 with more inspiring things to share with you. Until then, stay safe and have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
2021, powerful and positive!
So, according to the colour wizards at Pantone, the colours that will express the mood for 2021 will be Ultimate Grey and Illuminating. The combination of yellow and grey – two very independent, almost contradictory colours – is meant to signify optimism and strength, two very important messages and values that we should carry into the New Year to make the most of it. A controversial, polarising choice, but one whose message rings true: after this tumultuous year, we can look forward to brighter times, but also acknowledge and learn from the strength and resilience we have had to display to get through it.

Because it matters!
Creative agency Designsnake Studio has created a new antimicrobial platform that matters to today’s germ-conscious consumer (and it’s also called Matter!). The multidisciplinary team of creative minds leveraged their expertise in branding and packaging to create an innovative, safe and sustainable solution that protects both the consumers, the products and the planet. Matter is an antimicrobial coating that can be applied to packaging materials to provide protection against 99.9% of microbes. The advanced silver ion technology eliminates the opportunity for microbes to exist on a protected surface and makes packaging feel safer for everyone. The pandemic has been an opportunity for innovation across many different categories, especially care and hygiene products and enhancements.

Healthcare for all folx!
Folx is a healthcare provider and subscription service designed specifically to empower queer and trans consumers. Folx believes that healthcare is about human lives, not just about a diagnosis. Tired of seeing queer and trans folx treated as problems, not people, Folx wants everyone to be cared for equally, regardless of their gender or sexual orientation, free of any stigmas or barriers. Folx is currently accepting members only in the United States, but we look forward to the concept going global soon! In a more inclusive world, new brands are created with a core focus to solve social issues, to break taboos and to make life better and fairer for everyone.

Fridge refresh.
There’s always a silver lining, right? Well, as a result of the radical change in lifestyle we all experienced during the pandemic, there has been a notable reduction in household food waste. But there’s always room for improvement!. Brighton-based designer Thalis Nicolaous was inspired to design a modular fridge the allows the consumer to better see and have full access to the contents. The concept fridge, which is called Presenta, has three vertical, three-tiered shelving units that swing out on a hinge, allowing users to view everything inside the fridge at once. A design solution that helps consumers make small but significant (and convenient) behaviour changes in favour of sustainability.
