From banana rum to lamps that help those with dyslexia, here are some things that made us say “That’s Interesting” in the studio this week.

Read between the lamps

Reading should be a pleasure for all. With this in mind, the new Lexilife Lamp has been designed to assist with reading by allowing the one eye to be more dominant, avoiding confusion and blurring of words.  The technology, which combines both pulsed and modulated light, makes it possible to erase the mirror effect that a dyslexic person sees and take the strain away from reading.

KitKat Kit

KitKat’s famous tagline ‘Have a break, have a KitKat’ slogan has inspired their latest campaign with brilliant creative flare. They’ve teamed up with Airfix, a company that creates intricate model-making kits to launch a special edition Supermarine Spitfire. This special edition includes a sealed KitKat on a mounted 3d-printed plastic ‘sprue’, and encourages modellers to enjoy a break while building.

Bananas about Rum  

Scottish alcohol producer William Gran & Sons is launching a new rum, flavoured with sustainably sourced banana skins. The skins are fermented before being steeped in alcohol grain to extract the flavour. This unique rum is recommended to be drank on ice, or mixed in with a cocktail for a sweet punchy kick.

Sustainable sport

For the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Japan has set the ambitious target of making 99% of items produced for the games reusable and recyclable. This even includes the beds for the athlete villages, which will be made from high resistance cardboard and recyclable polythene mattresses.
