From DIY Oreo cookies to truly transparent perfume bottles with invisible writing, here are some things that made us say “That’s interesting!” in the studio this week.
YOUR Oreo!
The delicious chocolate wafer-creme-chocolate wafer sandwich biscuit is no stranger to creative activations, from seasonal flavours to fashion collaborations. Their latest initiative sees them handing the keys to its consumers, letting them be the creators. The Mondelez-owned brand has created a new customization platform called OREOiD (just in time for the holidays btw!). It allows consumers to truly personalise their cookies, from the creme colour to the dip flavour to pictures and messages, all the way to the packaging. If you know any Oreo lovers, we hope we’ve just given you the perfect Christmas gift idea! After a long period of social distancing, thoughtful, tech-powered personalisation in the gifting sphere can help consumers reconnect.

The other DogHouse
BrewDog has expanded again… The beer brand continues its brand stretch into the hospitality domain, with a new hotel opening in Manchester in 2021. Launched under the existing DogHouse brand, each room conveys the character and aesthetics of the beer brand, and features an in-room Punk IPA tap. The next hotel will have 25 rooms available to book, a Brewdog bar and a rooftop bar. It’s very exciting to see how brands build and expand their world to offer more 360 experiences that convey their values and character.

Adscent calendar.
Italian fragrance brand Acqua Di Parma has launched its 2020 advent calendar, which consists of 25 luxurious perfumes and body and face products. It is packaged in a cylindrical box that unfolds into 4 parts and transforms into a festive Italian home. Opening it also reveals individual compartments for the complex and unique fragrances. So if you’re looking for a touch of luxury and sensory exploration to end 2020 on an indulgent note, this is the perfect calendar for you. A (self) gifting idea that comes with a sustainable story, as the craft and quality of the materials and design encourage second usage.

Can you see it!?
Jiani Zeng and Honghao Deng – a pair of MIT innovators – have developed an absolutely minimal, 3D printed flacon which is entirely transparent. Nseen is a new see-through perfume bottle covered in invisible writing, which is only revealed when it is tilted at just the right angle. The design of the Nseen bottle marks the first sophisticated design that has been produced using 3D printing, and leverages the principles of lenticular lens design. The designers and researchers on the project aim to push past the limitations of traditional design and to create a new language and direction for minimal design expressions which are stripped back to the essentials. 3D printing is a great tool to stretch possibilities for designers and researchers and it can also become a more efficient manufacturing process (for more on this, see our Earth Matters article, Mother Knows Best).
