From limited editions that combine toys and fashion to unexpected collaborations between designers and famous DJs, here are some things that made us say “That’s Interesting” in the studio this week.
So, we see iconic brands collaborating to create limited editions that celebrate their history and culture, digital platforms taking on physical forms in the retail space, fashion brands shedding dated beliefs and welcoming a more inclusive future, and designers joining forces with famous DJs to raise awareness about waste.
Superstar pairings.
Lego and Adidas join forces once again, this time to celebrate the legacy of the Superstar. Launched in 1969, the Adidas Superstar is an iconic shoe that has had significant cultural impact over the years. The shoe has now been recreated by each brand paying tribute to the other: Lego launched a buildable model of the shoe made from 731 pieces; Adidas released trainers with Lego-like studs and blocky stitching. An original, dual take on limited editions that allows each brand to shine in its category by being inspired by the other’s.

Let’s get physical!
Google steps out of our screens and onto our streets! Well, just the streets of New York, for now. Designed by architecture studio Reddymade, Google has opened its first retail store, a space where customers can experience the brand’s hardware and services. The store expresses the curiosity, approachability and accessibility of Google. It follows the principles of sustainability – all the furniture is made from cork and recycled materials – and, as expected, there are a lot of interactive, tech-powered elements. Today’s brands must operate in both digital and physical worlds – how can they retain their brand spirit and identity across all dimensions?

A better secret.
Victoria’s Secret is leaving its Angels behind and is welcoming the future with the launch of a new partnership program that looks to reposition the brand as approachable and inclusive. Called the VS Collective, the platform will bring together extraordinary partners from different and unique backgrounds, from actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas to soccer star Megan Rapinoe. Together, they will help revolutionise the brand, the collection, and the VS community. Inclusivity and approachability in the fashion and beauty industries are no longer trends, they are must haves.

Making waves.
An unexpected collaboration between design studio Space Available and famous techno DJ Peggy Gou has just gone live! They created a chair made of plastic trash collected from streets and waterways in Indonesia. Each chair is made on the island of Bali from recycled high-density polyethylene packaging found on the neighbouring island of Java. The combination of material innovation, sustainable thinking and a high-profile collab to reach a wider audience turn an everyday object into something that hopes to start conversations around Indonesia’s huge plastic waste problem.
